Eric was a very old friend of my father, B M Hobby, through the Entomologists Monthly Magazine among other things and I saw a good deal of him as I was growing up, and we swapped Christmas cards for many years thereafter.  it was a great pleasure to see the obituary recognition of his life's work.  It is always humbling to discover just how much solid achievement can be got on the board.  A moral for us all.
