Memory no.2

Rachel Tanner

I've been thinking for months sifting over all the many facets of Eric's life that I was witness to - the fantastic firework parties; his wild enthusiasm on the phone when he discovered a corncockle flowering on the roadside a few miles from his house at Uffington. I'd no choice but to drop everything and jump in the car and go to share his enthusiasm.

One of my earliest memories was Eric coming to work at Watkins & Doncaster with a bad back; on enquiring one morning as to how it was, he turned round and flipped the back of his jacket up revealing a hot water bottle neatly harnessed to his waist!

He was the greatest of characters and one of the most interesting people I've ever had the good fortune to meet, added to which a very valued friend.
