Eric W Classey, J.P., F.R.E.S.     ::     1916 - 2008

Memory no.20

Ron Hodges

I interacted with Eric on and off for more than 40 years.  His interest in books, words, insects, nautral history, humor, food, and generalities plus a genuinely affable personality made him very close to me even though we did not see one another often.  I well remember, when he and Ivy visited Elaine and me in Maryland, the wonderful time we had.  At different times in England he was particularly helpful and generous with his time.  I truly appreciate his effort and dedication to the literature of entomology.  For many years he was a major source and treasure that managed to accumulate very interesting older items that were available through E W Classey Ltd.  My personal library benefited greatly as a result of his work.

Eric was involved with the Moths of America North of Mexico project from the beginning as a copublisher.  Unfortunately, at this time only Basil Harley and I of thosse at the beginning remail.  We enjoyed many wonderful times at the Wedge Plantation in coastal South Carolina for meetings and general sociality.
